About Fastershire
The Fastershire Broadband Project is a partnership between Herefordshire Council and Gloucestershire County Council.
The project’s aim is to help overcome the commercial market’s failure to bring superfast broadband to homes and businesses across the two counties.
The Task
Bringing improved broadband to areas that are considered too expensive for network suppliers to build commercially continues to be national issue.
Fastershire was one of the first four pilot projects set up in the UK to tackle this problem.
The ambition is that by the end of 2022 there will be access to fast broadband for all who need it.
The Process
The project is responsible for; monitoring commercial delivery across the two counties, identifying those properties left behind and then, using funding from local authorities, central government’s Bringing Digital UK (BDUK) and other sources, attempting to find a solution for those properties.
In recent years Fastershire has also been working to help promote the two counties and encourage commercial investment particularly in the rollout on new gigabit capable broadband networks.
